Christmas Speaker – Alice Kettle
Telling Stories with Thread
Alice Kettle is a contemporary textile/fibre artist who has been the president of the Embroiderers’ Guild since April 2019. The talk is about a life time of stitching, her work and those she has worked with and been inspired by.
Welcome to the Zoom Room with Nikki Parminter
Nikki will talk about the development of her work from Paper to Wood, then Mixed Media to Textiles. She will show lots of examples and explain her approach to developing and realising a piece of work. She will describe her influences and the practicalities of making pieces on a large scale. She hopes that viewers will be encouraged to ask lots of questions and hopefully be influenced by some of the items she will show.
Nikki trained as a Fine Artist, taught Art for 30 years and took early retirement in 2016. She is a self taught textile artist and has exhibited widely in both solo and joint exhibitions. Nikki has also written a number of articles for magazines and online platforms, supported by Janome for whom she provides Masterclasses.

My Journey with a Camera, Sketchbook and Needle
Polly’s work has been inspired by both her physical and emotional journeys. Working in mixed-media textiles she has tried to capture what the places have meant to her- colours, patterns, detail and decay, a sense of chaos or calm. Sometimes words and poems have helped her on my way and these have been incorporated into herwork.
Now based in Oxford, my work reflects my travels – from country lanes in the UK and Ireland to my many visits to India and Indochina. Working in mixed media my work combines my love of colour, texture and mark-making. I am still exploring and my talk reflects my the creative journey I has been on
